DESCRIPTION:Community members are invited to give input on which ideas and projects proposed in RiverFIRST\, a vision for new parks along the North and Northeast sides of the Mississippi are most important. This input is among the factors that will determine what the Minneapolis Park Board will consider in September. Additional factors include financial feasibility\, availability of land or easements\, and other projects underway along the Upper Riverfront. \nThree public meetings are scheduled for Tuesday\, July 19 at North Mississippi Regional Park\, 4900 Mississippi Court; Thursday\, July 28 at Bottineau Park Recreation Center\, 2000 Second St. NE; and Thursday\, Aug. 4 at Farview Park\, 621 29th Ave. N. Additional meeting dates are being identified for events co-hosted by stakeholder organizations. The way the RiverFIRST proposals are presented has been refined based on information and opinions collected in previous meetings. \nThe community input survey is available online via MinneapolisRiverfrontDevelopmentInitiative.com through Aug. 9. Printed surveys are available at Minneapolis Parks headquarters at 2117 West River Road\, all 47 recreation centers\, and are also being distributed by MR|DI Ambassadors at community events. \nThe MR|DI Ambassadors are a team of seven Minneapolis young people\, STEP-UP interns in bright blue shirts. The Ambassadors also encourage people to participate in “River Is | River Could Be\,” MinneapolisRiverfrontDevelopmentInitiative.com/Riveris\, a multidimensional\, multimedia community-created documentary of the Upper Riverfront.

SUMMARY:Neighborhood Volunteer Training
DESCRIPTION:Do you need to get more people involved in your organization?  Raise funds for a project?  Clean up a problem property or close down a drug house?  Organize a well-run and energized neighborhood meeting?  Do outreach to immigrants in your community? \nThe Minnesota Center for Neighborhood Organizing is offering in-depth training for neighborhood volunteers giving participants the opportunity to get hands-on help for specific neighborhood projects.  This in-depth training is designed to help volunteers learn organizing fundamentals and apply them effectively to their community groups\, combining comprehensive coverage of organizing basics\, trainings individually tailored to the individual needs of each volunteer and group\, long-term follow-through\, and group support from fellow neighborhood volunteers. \nThe five-week training will be held on Wednesdays starting July 27\, 7 p.m. at St. Olaf Church\, 2901 Emerson Ave. N.  The first topic will be “Recruiting Volunteers.”  Other topics will be chosen by the participants and can include such areas as leadership development\, grassroots and foundation fundraising\, running effective meetings\, media and communication\, issues identification and organizing\, organizing under-represented groups\, and research. \nFor more information\, call Jay Clark at 612-625-2513.
