DESCRIPTION:The Minneapolis Heritage Preservation Commission (HPC) will review a Certificate of Appropriateness application regarding the property located at 948 18th Ave NE\, also known as the Tyler Street Northeast John Cook House\, at its upcoming meeting on Tuesday\, September 30\, 2025\, at 4:30 p.m.   \nPublic Service Center\, Room 350\n250 S. 4th St.\, Minneapolis\, MN 55415\n\nThe application\, submitted by Todd Smith of Master Properties on behalf of Abubakar Jabril\, 1717 Developers\, LLC\, seeks approval to demolish the John Cook House\, which is an individually designated historic landmark. \nCity staff has recommended denial of the application to demolish the property\, citing its historic significance. The staff recommendation is that the HPC adopt findings to deny the request for a Certificate of Appropriateness. \nCommunity members are encouraged to review the staff report and attachments here: 948 18th Ave NE Staff Report. \nThe full agenda is available through the City of Minneapolis website: Heritage Preservation Commission Agenda – 9/30/2025. \nResidents are welcome to attend the HPC meeting to learn more or to share public comment on this item.

DESCRIPTION:Stone Arch Bridge Construction_10-21-2024_L03 \nJoin the Minnesota Department of Transportation\, Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board\, and your neighbors this Saturday\, Aug. 9\, 11 am-1 pm on the downtown side of the Stone Arch bridge to celebrate reopening the historic Stone Arch Bridge! \nThis family-friendly event is free and open to the public. There will be food trucks\, live entertainment\, interactive activities for all ages\, and a demonstration of construction materials and historical facts. \nStone Arch Bridge Community Celebration\nDate: Saturday\, Aug. 9\, 2025\nTime: 11 am-1 pm\nLocation: Downtown side of the Stone Arch Bridge\, near Water Works (425 West River Parkway) \n\nMore about this project\nStone Arch Bridge construction was completed in July 2025. Crews began repairing the historic Stone Arch Bridge spanning the Mississippi River on the edge of downtown Minneapolis in spring 2024. They repaired and replaced stones\, replaced the mortar on the entire bridge\, and made other repairs as needed. Stone repair and mortar replacement will slow deterioration and improve the condition of the bridge. \nFor more information\, visit the project webpage.
