The Minneapolis Heritage Preservation Commission (HPC) will review a Certificate of Appropriateness application regarding the property located at 948 18th Ave NE, also known as the Tyler Street Northeast John Cook House, at its upcoming meeting on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at 4:30 p.m.
The application, submitted by Todd Smith of Master Properties on behalf of Abubakar Jabril, 1717 Developers, LLC, seeks approval to demolish the John Cook House, which is an individually designated historic landmark.
City staff has recommended denial of the application to demolish the property, citing its historic significance. The staff recommendation is that the HPC adopt findings to deny the request for a Certificate of Appropriateness.
Community members are encouraged to review the staff report and attachments here: 948 18th Ave NE Staff Report.
The full agenda is available through the City of Minneapolis website: Heritage Preservation Commission Agenda – 9/30/2025.
