Tribal Flag Plaza Flag-Raising Ceremony on September 5 at the Minnesota State Capitol

Governor Walz, Lieutenant Governor Flanagan, along with the Capitol Area Architectural and Planning Board, invite you to attend the Tribal Flag Plaza Flag-Raising Ceremony—a historic moment at the Minnesota State Capitol.

The Tribal Flag Plaza is the first of its kind on the Minnesota State Capitol grounds and the flags of all eleven sovereign Tribal Nations sharing land with Minnesota will be permanently raised on the Capitol Grounds. It honors the sovereignty of the Tribal Nations and affirming a commitment to respectful government-to-government relations between the State and Tribal governments.

  • Friday, September 5, 2025
  • 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. (please arrive by 8:30 a.m.)
  • Lower Mall, Minnesota State Capitol Complex
  • Rain or shine the event will happen

Additional Information 

When: Friday, September 5th, 2025, from 9am-11am. Arrival by 8:30am 

Where:  The Tribal Flag Plaza is located on the Lower Mall of the Capitol grounds, 75 Rev Dr Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard., St Paul, MN 55155.

Parking: Lot Q and Lot K. (See map below). Additional information on parking can be found here: https://mn.gov/admin/citizen/buildings-grounds/parking/.

Bus routes to the Tribal Flag Plaza? Routes 3, 62, and 67 all stop at the intersection of 12th Street, Rice Street, and John Ireland Boulevard. The Tribal Flag Plaza is just a short walk from there (See map below).

Light rail: The Robert Street stop on the Green Line is just east of the Tribal Flag Plaza and the Capitol/Rice Street Stop is just northwest of the Capitol building (See map below).

Restrooms: Public restrooms can be found in the Minnesota Department of Transportation and the Minnesota State Capitol. The Minnesota Department of Transportation building is just west of the Tribal Flag Plaza (See map below).

Beltrami and Northeast Park are neighborhoods in the Northeast community in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Beltrami's boundaries are Broadway Street NE to the north, Interstate 35W to the east, East Hennepin Avenue to the south, and Central Avenue and Harrison Street NE to the west. Northeast Park's boundaries are 18th Avenue and New Brighton Boulevard to the north, the city limits to the northeast, Interstate 35W to the southeast, Broadway to the south, and Central Avenue to the west.
